The Days We Keep was inspired by a magical sunset shared with my son. One of those moments that seems simple at the time but the magic stays with you.
This painting began as an older work that I decided to return to and completely reimagine. I let parts of its history become part of the new landscape and the texture of the original painting still moves through the surface.
I experimented with a brighter pink underpainting and allowed much more of it to remain visible between layers of colour. Against the deep greens, blues and warmth of the sunset, those flashes of pink give the landscape an unexpected glow that shifts as the light around it changes.
There’s something I love about returning to an old painting with new eyes. The original hasn't disappeared entirely; it's become part of what came next.
For me, this painting holds that same feeling about memory. Not every moment stays with us, but there are some we carry forward and that magic becomes part of who we are.
