An impromptu day at Bells Beach with my kids turned into one of those beautiful adventures that keeps feeding my creativity long after we've come home.
I was drawn to all the different layers within this landscape. Particularly, the richness of the coastal bush against the ocean. Through my sketches and composition studies, I kept returning to those shifting greens and the way they frame the water beyond.
Movement is something I'm always drawn to in the landscape. I could spend hours watching the waves dance along the shore and I wanted to capture some of that energy through loose, expressive brushstrokes and flashes of unexpected colour.
Trips to the beach always seem to reset something in me. There's something about being somewhere so beautiful and vast that helps me get out of my head and makes everything else feel smaller.
Bring Us Back is a reminder of that feeling: of the places we return to when we need a little perspective.
