Between Tides was inspired by the Victorian coastline at dusk, when the last of the evening light catches the landscape and everything seems to slow down.
A quiet moon hangs above the sea while layers of coastal grasses move across the foreground in unexpected pinks, greens and ochres. Loose, gestural brushstrokes capture the movement of the landscape and the shifting light.
This painting grew from my fascination with those fleeting moments in nature that make me stop and look: the pull of the moon over the water, grasses moving in the breeze and the feeling of settling into a landscape as daylight disappears.
